Joining the library

It's free to join the library!

There are two ways to join the library:

  • Visit a library
Bring one form of identification into the library. Either proof of your name and current address or one showing proof of your signature e.g: bank books/cards, driving license, local authority rent book or allowance book.

  • Join the library online
Click on the Libraries Online Joining Form link on this page. If you register to join the library online you will receive a temporary borrower number and PIN. You can start reserving items straightaway from the online catalogue but will not be able to borrow items until you have provided proof of your address at your designated library.

If you are under 16 there are three ways to join...

  • Visit a library on your own
You can join the library on your own to borrow children’s books or to use a computer.

  • Visit a library with a parent or carer
They will need to bring one form of identification into the library.

  • Join the library online
Click on the Libraries Online Joining Form link on this page.  You will need to have your parents/carers permission to register to join the library online. If your parents/carer are a member of the library then you will need to enter their borrower number when prompted. If they are not a member then you will need to enter your parents/carers contact details (e.g.: full name and a permanent address)

In signing your library card you are agreeing to abide by the rules and byelaws of Wakefield Libraries and Information Services and Computer usage policies (copies are available at all libraries). In return we will offer a level of service outlined in our Customer Care Standards.
