Accessibility - services available to disabled library users
A wide range of information materials, leisure reading, events and displays at 29 libraries across the Wakefield District
Two mobile libraries which visit smaller communities and residential homes in the District. Both are equipped with a lift and one has an induction loop system
A Home Library delivery service of books and talking books for residents in the District who need this provision
Free Internet access at all libraries
Computer software with screen magnification and speech synthesis at some libraries
A district-wide database (www.wdco.org) offering free websites to community groups and listing local clubs, societies and support groups
Community information in a range of formats at all libraries
Large print and talking books available free of charge in all libraries
A range of Sound and Vision materials in many libraries
Dome magnifiers for use on the premises at all libraries
The provision of book baskets and a small book trolley at Wakefield Drury Lane Library
Regular events and displays which are of specific interest to people with disabilities at many libraries
Displays and confidential advice sessions by the Pensions Service at some libraries
Accessible toilets at some libraries
Close links with organisations representing people with disabilities
Well informed and trained staff at all libraries who are keen to help any library users make the most of the services
Speaking Volumes
Speaking Volumes project aims to provide greater access to talking books and spoken word materials for the visually impaired through local library services.
