Childrens gymnastics

The Councils Sport and Active Lifestyle Service is working in partnership with Wakefield Gymnastics Club to provide gymnastics sessions for children at Thornes Park Stadium.

The sessions are run using the British Gymnastics Proficiency Award Scheme with fully qualified British Gymnastics coaching staff, the sessions are divided into five categories according to the age of the child:

Gym Joey

  • For children aged 2 years +. The sessions have music, fun and play elements as an introduction to gymnastics. 
  • Session price - £4.00

Pre - BAGA - Stage 2

  • An introduction to gymnastics for children aged 4 years. The classes work on basic floor moves such as forward and backward rolls and giving children their first experience of apparatus.
  • Session price - £4.00

British Gymnastics Proficiency Award Scheme (BAGA)

  • A natural progression from the FUNdamentals Stage 2 (Pre BAGA) for children aged 5 years +. The lessons introduce movement, balance and coordination into sequences.

Freestyle Gymnastics

  • Freestyle gymnastics is an adaptation of existing gymnastic skills mixed with influences from the martial arts and street culture. Participants are instructed in a relaxed and safe environment by qualified coaches
  • Session price - £5.20

Street Dance

  • Street dance is a great way of learning some of the latest dance moves while keeping fit and having fun at the same time. You don't need to have any previous dance experience simply turn up wearing comfortable clothing and trainers.
