Wakefield Council’s Sport and Active Lifestyles, Wakefield Schools Football Association and Barnsley Football Club have combined to create a partnership to deliver football development activities throughout the Wakefield District and South Yorkshire areas.
Fully qualified FA coaches will deliver a programme of activities following Barnsley Football Club’s elite player performance pathway coaching syllabus. This will be age related (5-7 years and 8-13 years) and include a number of skill and technical drills, including sending and receiving, close control, attacking and defending. All taught skills will be implemented in small sided games to assess progress in opposed situations.
The below development structure illustrates how participants progress through the coaching programme. It is a rolling 12 week programme with visits arranged to Barnsley Football Club toward the end of the programme which in turn will involve an academy training session including small sided games.
