Trampoline safety

In a recent survey, local children told us that they enjoyed playing on trampolines because they are fun and good exercise.  Most of the children said that they jumped on the trampoline with at least one other person, but if children do not follow simple safety rules, trampolining could lead to injury.  Children who trampoline are prone to painful injuries such as broken wrists, arms, ankles and hips.

During 2009/10 there were 60 admissions to Mid Yorkshire Hospitals for children and young people under 18 years relating to falls from playground equipment, with some children spending up to four days in hospital.

Encourage your child to trampoline safely by following our top tips:

  • Make sure that the trampoline is securely fixed following manufacturers’ instructions
  • Make sure you have an approved surrounding safety net
  • No more than one person should be on the trampoline at any one time
  • Do not attempt difficult skills without appropriate training.
  • Become a member of local club that are affiliated to British Gymnastics
