What is Physical Activity Champions?

Physical Activity Champions (PAC) is a partnership between Wakefield Council and NHS Wakefield District that promotes the benefits of sport and encourages individuals, groups and communities in becoming more active, more often.

We are currently recruiting volunteers from within the Wakefield district to ‘champion’ the benefits of sport, to share your own experiences and to support individuals, groups and communities in becoming more physically active.

The programme provides training and support for the ‘Physical Activity Champions’ and provides opportunities for them to pass on their experiences and advice to others. 

What will a Physical Activity Champion have to do?

As a Physical Activity Champion, you will meet with individuals and groups to talk to them about their concerns or barriers to sport and active recreation.  You could become a ‘buddy’ to individuals who may have had similar concerns about physical activity as yourself.

During these discussions you will help to participants find ways to become more active as well as offering advice and directing people to activities, clubs and schemes available in the local area.

Another role of the Physical Activity Champion will be to gather feedback from the participants you engage with. This will be used to help us develop schemes that will meet the needs of individuals and groups. 

We will also ask you to assist us in identifying and recruiting other potential champions from the people you support. This will create a larger base of people who can support new people in being more physically active.

A uniform/t-shirt will be provided for you to wear in your role as Physical Activity Champion.
