We Will Remember Them

We Will Remember Them logoStories of people from the Wakefield district who served their country in times of war.

This unique online archive describes the lives of people from across the Wakefield District who served their country in the great twentieth century conflicts and highlights the momentous effect that war had on families and local communities.

The stories in this archive have been researched and written by local people and family historians whose ancestors lived in the area.  The stories are illustrated with treasured family memorabilia including photographs, postcards and official documents.

The archive has been made available by Wakefield Libraries and Information Services whose "We Will Remember Them" project was funded by the Big Lottery Fund as part of the Museums Libraries and Archives Council’s "Their Past Your Future 2 (TPYF 2)" programme.  It is an indispensable resource for family historians and a valuable learning resource intended for use by all ages and abilities.
