The BBC WW2 People's War website aims to capture and preserve for future generations the story of the British people during World War Two.
This is an opportunity for those who lived through the war to leave a legacy so that the sacrifices of the war can be better understood.
Unlike any other war before or since, World War Two was fought as much by those working in the factories and living through the Blitz, as it was by the Armed Forces of land, air and sea. The stories of millions of ordinary heroes remain untold - and we know these heroes because they are our mums and dads, aunties, uncles, granddads and grandmas. From Bevin Boys and Land Girls to RAF pilots and the men of the Merchant Navy, ordinary people found themselves taking part in extraordinary events.
WW2 People's War is an archive of memories about the war and stories can be submitted by individuals or their families. Local organisations such as museums, libraries and learning centres helped contributors get their stories on to the site.
