This Group has been active since 1986. Their main areas of interest are Morley Township, Churwell, Gildersome, Drighlington, West Ardsley and East Ardsley, but these touch on parts of Leeds as well as Wakefield.
Pontefract & District Family History Society
Although it was only formed in 1997 the Pontefract Society has been very active. It has an ongoing programme of transcriptions of burials, baptisms, marriages and monument inscriptions. These are available for sale on their website.

The Society's area of interest includes the towns of Pontefract, Castleford, Knottingley, Ackworth, Birkin, Featherstone, Hemsworth, Kippax, Normanton, Methley, South Emsall, South Kirkby, Ledsham & Monk Fryston and the surrounding villages.

Wakefield & District Family History Society
Founded in 1997 this is the main contact for any Wakefield family history related information. The Society members have transcribed many useful documents, published a number of pamphlets and books as well as maintaining a regular programme of events.
