The imposing Featherstone Hotel stands on the corner of Station Lane and Green Lane, close to the site of Ackton Hall pit.
The large building on the right of the picture is the miners welfare which contained the assembly rooms. Used for social gatherings of all kinds by generations of Featherstone people the welfare suffered severe fire damage in the early 1990s. It is now the home of several small businesses.
The smaller building to the right of the hotel and to the front of the welfare was once the library for the town. A new library and community centre was opened in 1985 further down Station Lane.
