Featherstone ‘Massacre’ - 7th September 1893

In 1893 the small pit town of  Featherstone was the scene of a tragic confrontation between the local mine owner, supported by troops, and a crowd of ‘locked-out’ miners.

Sometimes described as a ‘disturbance’, a ‘riot’ or even a ‘massacre’ it was an event that would be long remembered within the mining communities.
