Hatfeild Hall

Exterior of Hatfeild Hall c.1890s Hatfeild Hall was originally built between 1598 and 1608 for Gervase Hatfeild. This family occupied it for almost 300 years.

There is a record in Wakefield Parish Church of the baptism of a son of Gervase, Francis, on 29 July 1613. Gervase himself was buried on 4 June 1654.

In 1897 James Hatfeild Harter put the estate up for sale.  The property was secured by an offer of £3,750 by a solicitor Herbert Beaumont. After his death, in January 1917 the property was sold to the West Riding Asylums Board and it became a hospital for mentally handicapped women.

The building later became a country pub, but was destroyed by fire in late 1986.  It has been restored and is now home to Normanton Golf Club Limited.
