Cultural Strategy for the Wakefield district

Wakefield's Cultural Strategy is shaping the way we live, work and play in the district. Culture plays a big part in changing lives for the better.

We have much to celebrate already in Wakefield but there is far more to come - the Hepworth, the new market hall and central library, the Castleford Forum - all designed by world-class architects.

We are building a national and international reputation with major national attractions like the National Coalmining Museum, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Xscape.  We have strong, welcoming communities with rich and diverse heritage.

The Year of Culture in 2010 will be a big milestone for us, with an international sculpture festival marking the opening of the Hepworth, and with presenting community festivals, galas, events and performances.

The Culture Strategy - driven by the new Cultural Partnership - maps out what we want to achieve over the next five years, working with local people and with creative and cultural industries to deliver our vision.

Please see 'Downloads' for a copy of the new Cultural Strategy.
