Education

Schools are about more than learning. New programmes of study are being developed to help children and young people find their place in the world, whatever their background and abilities.

The national Qualifications and Curriculum Authority wants to see learning linked to creativity, cultural understanding, diversity and enterprise.

Schools

Schools and the Music Service in the district support our bid and will use their resources to give children and young people greater access to cultural activities.

The pilot will offer new horizons to children and young people and help them to develop lifelong interests and rewarding careers.

Our Creative Exchange Partnerships have been developing creative teaching and learning across 25 schools through partnerships between artists and schools.  Schools and artists have worked with staff and children to develop creative approaches to visual arts and drama, creative writing and music.

Wakefield Music Services

We have an excellent reputation for musical education.  Over 3,500 children from 7 to 19 learn to play instruments in our schools, and  we provide 2,500 children with one hour of free music tuition a week through the Wider Opportunity Programme.

The Service offers Music Workshops in schools, involving pupils in lively and exciting sessions and lending out instruments. Workshop themes include African Drumming, Junk Music and Caribbean Music as well as themes to meet school requirements.
