The Civic is situated just off the main shopping centre. It has access to major road networks and is close to the Junction 32 shopping outlet and near to the M62. There is also a train station at Castleford.  

The building is licensed for 600 people. There are two rooms available for hire and use by members of the community and commercial purposes. It is a favourite for pantomimes, choral societies, amateur dramatic and operatic societies, local community groups, schools and business conferences.  

The Assembly Hall can accommodate 520 people downstairs and a further 80 on the balcony level. It is best used for large meetings and is ideal for shows, concerts and large parties.

The Legioleum Room is good for parties, wedding receptions and meetings.  

Each hall has its own bar facilities and there is a large kitchen on the ground floor.

Note: The Civic Centre is now registered for marriage ceremonies so as well as having a reception there you can also get married on site.

Facilities

There are bars available in both of the halls and in the foyer. There is also a kitchen on the ground floor. There are plenty of seating areas available.  

Dressing rooms are available to the rear of the assembly hall . 

A Star cloth is available and the Assembly Hall also has a Baby Grand Piano.  

The lighting and sound board were recently upgraded.   There is limited parking outside of the centre.

Accessibility

The Civic Centre is fully accessible and compliant with DDA requirements, including:-

• disabled car parking spaces are available immediately outside the Main entrance 
• disabled toilet facilities  
• a chair lift is in operation and allows access to the basement and to the foyer area. There is also a service lift that can be made available for people with disabilities.  
• a flashing audible fire alarm system is in operation
• an induction loop is fitted in the Main Hall.
