No description

Clarke Hall has again won a Sandford Award, recognising quality and excellence in the educational services and facilities offered to schools.

The award report states: “Clarke Hall inspires visitors to connect with the past by offering them opportunities to experience aspects of social history through active participation.  Skilful questioning sets off trains of thought which will open new windows in the mind of each person who sets foot in the museum

Take a look…

Clarke Hall
Step back in time to the late 17th century when Clarke Hall was the family home of Benjamin and Priscilla Clarke and their children.  Finished in 1680, the house was fashionably built to have a private dining room with stunning plaster ceiling featuring exotic plants and flowers.  In Restoration England, fashionable goods such as tea, coffee and chocolate were the drinks to be seen with.

The Gardens
Clarke Hall’s reconstructed gardens are complete with a decorative knot garden, and herb gardens with medicinal, culinary and dye plants.

Visitor Centre
The Visitor Centre meeting room is available to hire during the week, and hosts an exhibition about the Hall and a shop selling a range of unusual period-inspired gifts.

Did you know?

Clarke Hall was saved from demolition in 1914 when it was bought by Henry Haldane, an amateur archaeologist.  Haldane had grown up in the house as his grandfather and then father had rented it.
