Wakefield Mayoral Chains

The Wakefield Mayoral chains of office were made by Fattorini’s of Birmingham.

The Mayor’s chain of office comprises a necklace of 13 badges from which the badge of office is centrally hung bearing the new Wakefield Coat of Arms.  Each badge is separated by a gold rose representing the White Rose of Yorkshire.

The Thirteen badges represent the former local authorities in the District prior to Local Government reorganisation in 1974, when they were all merged into Wakefield Metropolitan District.

The badges are as follows:

  • Castleford Borough Council
  • Ossett Borough Council
  • Knottingley Urban District Council
  • Normanton Urban District Council
  • Osgoldcross Rural District Council
  • Pontefract Borough Council
  • Wakefield Rural District Council
  • Wakefield City Borough Council
  • Stanley Urban District Council
  • Hemsworth Rural District Council
  • Hemsworth Urban District Council
  • Horbury Urban District Council
  • Featherstone Urban District Council

The new Wakefield Coat of Arms represents the amalgamation of all these areas, which are represented by the 13 acorns under the shield.
