What happens if I move during the year?
Anyone moving into the district, or moving within the district or anyone who has not previously registered to vote, can register during the year through the "rolling register" procedure by simply completing and returning an application form (see 'About my Vote' in Related Links).
Contact the Electoral Services Office (see 'Contact Us' link) to request a form or download a copy of the application form (see 'About my Vote' in Related Links) to register during the year.
Forms cannot be submitted electronically as we need your signature. You also have to sign your own form - someone else cannot do it for you.
Changes are made to the register of electors through the rolling registration procedure on the first working day of each month. Changes cannot be made to the register for the period from September to November each year when the annual canvass is conducted prior to the publication of the revised register by 1 December each year.
When you send us your form we will add your name to our list of new applications. Any elector can then object to your name being added to the register. If this happens we will write to you.
If your application is not objected to we will change your details within 2 to 6 weeks of receiving your application form. We will write to tell you when your application is allowed.
We will also advise the electoral registration officer for your previous address so that your name can be removed from that address.
There are special rules about electors being added to the register during an election period. Because of these you may not be able to vote at the election if you are added during the election period.
REMEMBER – You must register to vote at elections. You are not automatically registered, even if you are paying council tax.
