Your right to vote by POST    

Applying for a postal vote could not be easier.

If you want to apply to vote by post at future elections, contact the electoral services office (see Contact Us under 'Also In') and we will send you a form.

Postal votes are now available 'on demand'.  You do not need to give a reason why you want one.  You may choose to vote by post if you simply think that it would be more convenient for you.
 
Postal votes can be permanent or just for a particular election. For example, if you are going away on holiday you might want to vote by post just for one election.
 
Although we may send ballot papers to addresses outside the United Kingdom, electors wishing to vote by post should bear in mind the length of time taken for post to travel in either direction.
 
If you move house you must tell the Electoral Registration Officer immediately, or you may lose your postal vote.
 
Please remember that there is always a last day to receive postal vote applications in time for a particular election. This day and time will be advertised closer to the election date.
 
You are strongly advised to complete and send in your application early. Don't wait until the election date is known. 

What do I do when I receive my postal ballot paper?

You will receive instructions on how to complete your postal vote with your ballot paper. It is essential that you complete the declaration form and return it with your ballot paper. You will also receive a pre-paid envelope to return the ballot paper.

If you have a postal vote you cannot vote in person at a Polling Station. You can, however, hand in the completed form at a polling station within your area if you haven't got time to post it.
