Tony Wallis was first elected a Councillor in 2000. In his first year he was runner up in an essay competition on the future of local government.
Born in 1951 Tony has lived in Castleford all his life. He spent his childhood in the Potteries and after living in Airedale moved to Glasshoughton, where he lives with his wife and family.
Tony attended Normanton Grammar School and at University obtained an upper second class honours degree in Science and Technology. He is a Governor of Park Junior and Glasshoughton Infant Schools. He worked for the National Coal Board as a laboratory technician and moved to Yorkshire Water analysing drinking water.
A member of several local groups including the Friends of Valley Gardens and the Glasshoughton and Redhill Residents' Group, both which he helped to start. Tony is a founder member of FOCAL (The Friends of Castleford Library), having campaigned for several years for a new library and museum building in Castleford.
Since 1998, he has also run a website about Castleford.
