John was elected as the Councillor for Horbury & South Ossett in May 2006.

Born and raised in Stockton-on-Tees, in 1996 he moved to Sheffield to attend University, the main area of study was Politics and Economics.

After leaving University in 2000 John has worked for a national Plumbers' Merchant, moving from trainee to Branch Manager.  In 2004 after successfully managing branches in South Yorkshire John moved branch to Wakefield and moved house to Horbury.  It was then he started to get interested in local politics and local issues.

In 2006 he took a career break to return to Sheffield University to study for a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) before moving back into branch management in 2008.

As a Councillor takes an interest in the local Environment, which include green spaces and play areas, as well as trying to support local groups in enabling them to achieve their individual goals.  An involvement in fundraising led him to his greatest to date, raising £4,000 by trekking the Grand Canyon for the National Children’s Home (NCH) in 2006.   He is also proud to be a governor at Clifton Infants School in Horbury.

Socially enjoys watching all sports: rugby league, football, cricket and speedway.  As an ex-player of RL he occasionally returns to the field to take part in one off games.  Apart from sport he lists reading non-fiction, such as biographies, history, business and politics books as a way to relax.
