Monica moved to Wakefield from South Wales in 1973, and has lived in Sandal for 30 years.
She worked as a dental nurse for 28 years in Normanton, Crigglestone and latterly at Wakefield and Newhall Prisons, meeting a varied cross-section of the community. She retired in June 2004.
The main charities she supports are children affected by brittle bones (Osteogenesis Imperfecta) and The Breast Cancer Fund, having close links with both.
