Area Working - working for your Neighbourhood

Neighbourhood and area based working is a key part of our approach to ensuring that the services we provide are flexible and respond to local needs.

The Wakefield Together Partnership has identified seven areas covering the district:

  • Castleford
  • Normanton and Featherstone
  • Pontefract and Knottingley
  • South East
  • Wakefield Central
  • Wakefield North West
  • Wakefield Rural

We are working together to listen to the views of local people in each of these areas. This will improve the targeting of resources and ensure that local concerns and issues are responded to more effectively.

The Partnership has also identified 12 Priority Neighbourhoods and will be targeting action within these areas to help to tackle the serious and often pronounced differences in health, crime, employment and deprivation between communities across the district.

However, focusing on narrowing the gap does not mean neglecting other communities or citizens. It means giving greatest support to those in greatest need. We want to ensure all our citizens and communities have the best opportunities in life.

The area working arrangements will ensure that local people are able to influence area plans and the way we target and deliver our services.

Our partnership commitment to deliver this way of working will greatly improve the way we work together across the partnership, reduce duplication of effort and deliver a more joined up service across all service areas.

Elected members have a key role at al levels of this model strengthening their leadership function within both communities and local government.
