Registering places of worship for marriage

Before a marriage can be legally solemnized in a place of worship the building must be certified as a place of worship by the Registrar General and subsequently registered for marriages.

There are specific application forms which are prescribed by law for these purposes.  These forms can be obtained from any registry office where you will also be able to obtain further advice and details of relevant fees.

  • See 'Also In' for the contact details of the Pontefract and Wakefield registry offices
