Important points to remember

  • Both you and the person you are marrying must give the notice of marriage. Relatives or friends cannot do this for you.

  • Each of you must give the notice in the district where you live and you must be married within twelve months of the date you give notice.

  • We can accept a provisional booking for the marriage more than twelve months before it is due to take place. Either of you can make the booking.

  • If you want to be married at the Register Office or at an approved premises in Wakefield or Pontefract on a Saturday, the most popular day for marriages, you should make a provisional booking at the appropriate Register Office as soon as possible.

  • We charge a fee for accepting notice of marriage and for attending marriage ceremonies.

  • We charge a fee for making a provisional booking
