Civil weddings or civil partnerships can take place in hotels, banqueting suites, stately homes and other historic buildings which have been granted a licence by the local authority.  

These ceremonies are usually scheduled on the hour or half hour between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm and are subject to the availability of the Registrars.  Please contact the appropriate Register Officer to check availability before confirming booking with the venue.

You can choose to have your civil wedding in any Register Office in England or Wales, or any approved premises in England and Wales.  You will still have to give notice in the district, or districts, where you live and you will have to give the marriage authority form, or forms, to the Register Office for the district in which you are getting married.  The fees for marriage in these places will be set by each local council and will vary from district to district.
