Marriages, Civil Partnerships and Renewal of Vows

There are two Register Offices in the Wakefield District, one at Pontefract Town Hall, the other at 71 Northgate, Wakefield.  Both are available to couples from both within and outside the District.

Pontefract Register Office is centrally situated on the ground floor of the Town Hall, a Grade ll building of Palladian design which dates from 1785. The building, which is surmounted by an elegant domed and collonaded cupola, forms an attractive terminal feature to the town's fine market place. The newly refurbished ceremony suite includes a ceremony room with seats for 25 guests and standing space for a further 10 and the De Lacy Room which provides a facility for customers with mobility difficulities or those who wish to have a smaller, more private ceremony (on request).

Wakefield Register Office is conveniently situated on the ground floor of Egremont House, an imposing three-storey building, which has been sympathetically converted and retains many fine original features. The ceremony suite has high ceilings with ornate plasterwork and elegant lighting. It has seating for 30 guests and standing space for a further 20.

You are welcome to call at either Register Office to look round the ceremony suites before you book.

These pages outline the facilities at each and the necessary formalities for weddings at a Register Office, in registered places of worship and in approved premises.

The District's Register Offices are currently open from 9.00am to 4.30pm, with Saturday mornings by appointment.  You are welcome to call at either office and look around the marriage suites before you book your wedding.
