The Registration Service within Wakefield District

The Wakefield Metropolitan District is served by two Register Offices, Wakefield Register Office and Pontefract Register Office.

Each register office is responsible for the recording of all births, deaths and marriages which occur within its district boundaries and for housing and maintaining historic records of these life events dating back to the inauguration of civil registration in 1837.

The boundaries of the two registration districts are defined, by and large, by council wards:-

  • Wakefield Registration District comprises Wards 1-9, 21 and part of 14 (Crofton)
  • Pontefract Registration District comprises Wards 10-20 except part of 14 (Crofton)
