Correspondence - Service standards

Written enquiries to the Coroner will normally receive a reply within ten working days of receipt.  If the matter cannot be resolved within that time an acknowledgement will be issued within five working days advising when a proper response can be expected.

The Coroner's Office and Court has two offices, one based in Wakefield and the other in Leeds See 'Contact Us' for further information).

The Courts do have waiting rooms and toilet facilities, but at the time of writing there are no public telephones, refreshment facilities or minicom facilities. There are loop systems in both of the Coroner's Courts. Access for disabled persons is only available in Leeds. Anyone attending in Court with special requirements therefore e.g. the disabled, or those needing translation or interpreting services should contact the Coroner's Office well in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

The Coroner, his Officers and staff will identify themselves by name in their dealings with members of the public.

When the Coroner is unavailable then the Deputy or Assistant Deputy Coroner will act on his/her behalf and exercise the full powers of the Coroner.
