Inquest - after

On conclusion of the inquest the next of kin will be provided with a written explanation about how and when a copy of the death certificate may be obtained.

If, in the interests of preventing further fatalities the Coroner decides to report the matter in writing to a relevant person or authority having announced his intention to do so in Court, he will do so within ten working days of the conclusion of the inquest. He will also send copies of his letter to all the interested persons. A copy of any subsequent reply will be sent within five working days of its receipt.

Interested parties can apply for a copy of the inquest verdict from the Coroner. This information is actually reproduced on the death certificate. Copies of all other relevant documents produced in evidence at the inquest will be supplied within ten working days on receipt of a charge which will vary according to the number and size of the documents to be copied.  An estimate of the fee will be provided in advance if requested.

The Coroner can also supply on receipt of a fee, a copy of his notes of evidence which will be in the form of a transcription of the tape recording of the evidence recorded at the inquest. Every effort will be made for transcripts to be provided as quickly as possible but it is not always possible to give an accurate time when these can be issued. In all cases an estimate of the fee will be given on application.

The Coroner will pay witness and juror expenses within 14 working days following receipt of a correctly completed application form.
