Wakefield Together's Safer and Stronger Communities Partnership brings together West Yorkshire Police and Wakefield Council, and many other local partners, to tackle crime and disorder within the area. The Partnership was formed in response to the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
It covers all the District and involves working closely with a wide range of other partners - the Police Authority, Probation Service, Primary Care Trusts, Fire Service, local businesses, community and voluntary organisations - anyone involved in community safety - to develop a Strategy that will form the basis for combating crime and disorder. Our efforts to reduce crime and disorder will only be effective if we all work together.
One of the key issues facing the Partnership is to target our efforts at the local issues and priorities, ensuring that resources are used effectively. We have adopted an approach which identifies "hot-spots" - places where crime and disorder problems are causing the most concern not only in terms of numbers of incidents but in terms of the effect on local people, whilst also seeking to reduce crime and disorder across the whole District.
Wakefield Together has recently undertaken a major restructuring to ensure it is in a position to be more responsive to the needs of the local area. A key part of this strategy is to enhance the use of information, incorporate more working at an area level and to engage local people more in identifying solutions to crime and disorder problems in their area.
