Genealogy Searches - Burial Records and Registers

Want to trace your family tree? Records of burials are a good place to start. Searching of cemetery registers can be done in two ways, manually by actually going to the cemetery and looking at the record books, or by searching online.

Searching Manually

You are welcome to visit any area cemetery office to inspect the records free of charge although you must make an appointment first. To make an appointment use the contact link below for details of how to get in touch with us.

If you are unable to visit in person we can do a manual search for you. The current fee is £12.00 per person, for each period of five years searched, (this includes two years prior to the date given and three years after). In order to conduct a search on your behalf you will need to supply us with:

  • Cemetery/Crematorium
  • Name of deceased
  • Year of death

The Genealogy Search application form can be found under 'Downloads' and returned to us with the details of required searches and the appropriate fee.

Searching Online

It is now possible to search records of all Wakefield District burials and cremations since 1986 free of charge.

Online Search: Burial Registers
A searchable archive of the District's scanned burial registers from the late 1800s through to 1986.
Online Search: Burial and Cremation Records
This search facility contains records of all Burials and Cremations since 1986. Whilst historic records prior to 1986 are continuously being added it has to be understood that at the moment the database is not a comprehensive record of all Burials and Cremations.
