Information

Opened in the last quarter of the nineteenth century, the cemetery was laid out on a flat area of ground, having twin chapels, situated in the heart of the site, together with a purpose-built lodge in the cemetery entrance. These buildings which fell into disrepair, have long since been demolished, leaving the cemetery with an open aspect. One original building which still remains, however, is the old brick built mortuary, which has been used as a workman’s cabin and store shed.

Standing in prominent position at the head of the long entrance drive is a large imposing war memorial of stone construction at which memorial services are held each Remembrance Day.

A number of large and ornate memorials still remain in the older part of the cemetery which are adequately complimented by an avenue of mature and splendid lime trees.

The cemetery has been extended in recent years and now accommodates burials on the lawn type system, also provided is a facility for the interment of cremated remains in a small memorial garden.
