Wakefield Council has a high profile Supplier engagement programme and it is our intention to maximise the opportunities for all types of business to bid for Council contracts through fair and transparent competitive quotation and tender processes.
We work closely with the different business sectors such as small, medium enterprises (SMEs) and the voluntary sector to ensure that those organisations have access to information on our contracting opportunities, an understanding of our procurement processes and wherever possible we try and 'package' our contracts in such a way to ensure for example that smaller businesses are not excluded from bidding.
All contracting opportunities with a value exceeding £10,000 are automatically profiled on the Supplier and Contract Management System (SCMS) for the Yorkshire and Humber region. Any organisation that is interested in trading with Wakefield Council should register on the SCMS to ensure that it receives alerts on appropriate Council contracting opportunities. Further information on the SCMS and the registration process is available through the links.
Yorkshire Purchasing Organisation (YPO)
Wakefield Council is one of the member authorities of the YPO and uses many of the arrangements put into place by the YPO buying consortia.
