Voluntary and Community Sector Engagement

Wakefieldvcs - 2010

Over the last 12 months Wakefield Council has been supporting Voluntary Action Wakefield District in their development of a new website for and about Wakefield District's voluntary and community groups. Wakefieldvcs is a comprehensive and interactive website allowing users to:

  • find details of other groups
  • discuss ideas, share news and promote their work
  • find and share funding, training and support opportunities
  • learn how to recruit volunteers or become a volunteer

Wakefieldvcs includes an organisation directory (which is free of charge to join) so from October 2010 the directory www.wakefield.gov.uk/vcs will cease to exist and the Council will use the directory on ‘Wakefieldvcs’ as a resource. All organisations currently listed on this directory have been contacted in order to ensure they have the opportunity to be registered on ‘Wakefieldvcs’.

Visit www.wakefieldvcs.org for more information (see 'Related Links').

Voluntary and Community Sector Directory - 2007

A Voluntary & Community Sector Directory has been developed by Wakefield Council, Voluntary Action Wakefield District and the Social Enterprise Support Centre. The directory provides an up-to-date list of Voluntary & Community Sector (VCS) organisations operating in and around the Wakefield District. Organisations are able to create and maintain their own profile free of charge to allow members of the public and Council officers access to information regarding the goods, works and services available within the sector.

If you have any queries in relation to this, please email procurement@wakefield.gov.uk

Voluntary and Community Sector Procurement Engagement Programme 2007

Throughout 2006, Wakefield Council, Voluntary Action Wakefield District and Social Enterprise Link worked together to deliver a number of Procurement Seminars aimed at increasing awareness of procurement opportunities within the third sector.

National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA) Annual Conference 2007

On 12 September 2007 Wakefield Council delivered a ‘Winning Council Business’ presentation at the NAVCA annual conference at Keele University.  A copy of this presentation is available in the ‘downloads’ section.

Working with the Third Sector - 15 May 2007.

On 15 May 2007, Wakefield Council hosted an event for the public sector, themed around Voluntary Sector engagement. The Voluntary & Community sector directory, developed by Wakefield Council with funding from the Yorkshire & Humber Regional Centre of Excellence, was shared with the delegates. Other highlights of the event included a presentation from a local Social Enterprise which has tendered for a number of contracts around the region and the day culminated in an interactive session where delegates learnt from each others experiences and jointly identified some key ways to move forward.

All presentations, supporting good practice documents and guidance for the voluntary sector directory are available in the 'Downloads' section
