Good Practice Conference

Venue: Kinsley Community Centre

An opportunity for businesses to share some of their good practice on health based themes.  Expressions of interest are welcomed from other businesses to share their ideas and practices.  They don’t have to be the most original or innovative ideas, just something that they can discuss with (and hopefully inspire) others who haven’t already thought of that.  If you think you or your business has any good ideas please let us know.

Football Tournament

Venue: Minsthorpe Community College and / or Hemsworth Sports and Fitness Centre
Date: Friday 4 April 2008 (between 6 and 9pm)

This is a five-a-side type tournament which will take place on a floodlit synthetic pitch.  We are still looking for teams so please let us know if your company or any others you know in the area may be interested in putting a team forward.

Health Walks

Two 30 minute lunchtime Health Walks have been arranged specifically for the event week:-

• Tuesday 1 April – meet at 12.30pm at the main entrance gates at Next, Elmsall Drive, Dale Lane Industrial Estate, South Elmsall
• Thursday 3 April – meet at 12.30pm outside of the Haley Group, Lidgate Crescent, Langthwaite Grange Industrial Estate, Kinsley

Health Day

For organisations who would be willing to have a range of agencies come to their site for a day or half day. Contact us if you are interested.

Workplace Visits

Environmental Health and HSE staff will be visiting up to 400 workplaces over a two week period at the beginning of March. These visits will be to:-

• Advise and if necessary enforce on health risks such as MSD and Stress
• Promote the events week
• Distribute the healthy workplace directory
• Arrange visits to workplaces by support services assisting on healthy eating, physical activity, smoking cessation, mental health etc.

Schools

Several events are running in local schools:-

• Schools poster competition
• Schools visits to workplaces to deliver healthy lifestyle messages, and gain workplace experience
• Talks/visits to schools by employers

Employee health quiz

This is to be distributed through employers for prizes donated by employers.

Health checks

Workplace health checks by Lloyds chemist, health trainers etc. These can held be in workplace or a drop in centre.

Healthy Food taster sessions

These will provide free sampling of healthier food options in canteens.
