The Wakefield Together's Healthy Business Award has been developed to give recognition to workplaces who take positive steps to improve employee health and wellbeing and improve the environmental performance of their organisation.
It is a joint project between Wakefield Council’s Environmental Health department and NHS Wakefield District, funded by the Big Lottery Fund’s Wellbeing programme.
Good health means good business and this is especially relevant in the current economic climate. The Awards Team will work with organisations and their employees free of charge to put in small but meaningful changes to improve their health, wellbeing and environmental performance. It is open to all businesses across the district, from the smallest to the largest.
Guidance and support will be provided on the six key areas of the award, namely:
- Enabling staff to be more physically active
- Looking after the mental health of your staff
- Promoting healthy eating
- Considering the environmental impact of your business
- Encouraging best practice in health and safety
- Support for staff who want to stop smoking
An initial visit will devise an action plan and coaching visits for each topic will be arranged. All businesses who successfully complete the process will receive a certificate and publicity to recognise their achievements. In addition, there will be an awards ceremony in March 2011 to reward those businesses who have demonstrated the most committment and innovation.
