Business Rates (National Non Domestic Rates) are a tax payable on all non domestic property. They are payable to Wakefield Metropolitan District Council who collect them on behalf of the Government.  

The business rates collected by Wakefield are paid into a central pool and redistributed to billing authorities on a per capita basis. Wakefield’s share of redistributed income together with income from its council tax payers, revenue support grant provided by the Government and certain other sums, is used to pay for services provided by Wakefield Council.
