Between February and May 2012, we set ourselves a target of securing an additional 100 apprenticeship opportunities in 100 days. Through a partnership approach including Wakefield College, West Yorkshire Learning Providers and the National Apprenticeship Service, we exceeded our target by identifying 194 new apprenticeship opportunities with 64 local companies.
Although the campaign is now ended our work has not stopped. We are still working to increase the level of apprenticeship opportunities available with local businesses across the Wakefield district and to increase awareness of apprenticeships with our citizens.
What are Apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are work based training programmes designed by employers. An Apprenticeship leads to a nationally recognised qualification for an individual, providing skills to carry out a job, tailored to the needs of a business, therefore contributing to delivery of business benefits.
