Wakefield Apprenticeship Challenge

Wakefield apprenticeship Challenge 100The Wakefield Apprenticeship Challenge was launched on 3 February 2012 to raise awareness of the benefits of Apprenticeships for individuals, for businesses and the District, and to secure commitment to an additional 100 Apprenticeship opportunities across Wakefield within 100 days.

During 2010/11, 989 young people started Apprenticeship programmes in the Wakefield district, an increase of around 100 on the previous year. This was excellent news, but there were still more young people seeking Apprenticeships than available opportunities. If the Wakefield district is to compete and thrive in today’s challenging economic environment, our businesses need regular infusions of fresh talent and their current workforces need to be up-skilled.

Apprenticeships and Adult Apprenticeships offer a proven way for organisations to solve the problems of skills shortages and recruitment difficulties and to strengthen the economic position of the district for the future.
