What is Local Housing Allowance?
Local Housing Allowance is a new way of working out Housing Benefit. It does not replace Housing Benefit and the amount you will get will still depend on your income and savings. It is only the way we work out the maximum Housing Benefit you could get that has changed. Local Housing Allowance rules will only apply to new claims or if you move home or have a break in your claim of one week or more on or after the 7 April 2008.
Local Housing Allowance does not apply if:
- Your landlord is Wakefield District Housing
- Your landlord is a Housing Association
- You live in a caravan, mobile home or houseboat
- Meals are included as part of your tenancy
