Index of Multiple Deprivation and Indices of Deprivation 2007

The Index of Multiple Deprivation 2007 (IMD2007) is a Lower Layer Super Output Area (LSOA) measure of multiple deprivation.  The Indices are based on the premise that multiple deprivation is made up of the following separate dimensions, or 'domains' of deprivation:

  • Income Deprivation
  • Employment Deprivation
  • Health Deprivation and Disability
  • Education, Skills and Training Deprivation
  • Barriers to Housing and Services
  • Crime
  • Living Environment Deprivation

Lower Layer Super Output Areas are relatively small areas, each with an average population of 1,500 residents, and enable the comparison of like sized areas across the country. Nationally there are 32,482 LSOAs and 209 within the Wakefield district

Please see 'Downloads' for data on the following:

  • Wakefield district Super Output Areas
  • Income Deprivation Affecting Children Index (IDACI) and the Income Deprivation Affecting Older People Index (IDAOPI

There are also six district summary scores for each Local Authority district (there are 354 districts in England) and for each County Council and higher tier (there are 149 of these). A relative ranking of areas, according to their level of deprivation is then provided.

  • Local Authority District summary data (see 'Downloads')

Together these various Indices make up the Indices of Deprivation 2007.

The Indices of Deprivation 2007 (ID 2007) is a revision and update of the Indices of Deprivation 2004 (ID 2004)

A short deprivation profile produced by Yorkshire Forward explaining how it affects Wakefield is available (see 'Downloads').
