Churches and Chapels

Photo of Holy Trinity Church, OssettOssett used to be included in the broad parish of Dewsbury. But in 1858 it became a separate parish.

Holy Trinity Parish Church

Ossett's most significant landmark is the Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity, which stands on Church Street, an ambitious piece of Victorian gothic architecture.

Designed by the architect William Henry Crossland and built at a cost of £8,000. It was completed in may 1865 and replaced the church of 1807 which had stood in the market place, on the site of the present town hall. A stone plaque from this church is now in the south porch of Holy Trinity.

Holy Trinity is built in the form of a Greek cross with a central tower, which rises to a height of 110 feet and is surmounted by a perforated parapet, the spire rises a further 116 feet.

Christ Church South Ossett

Christ Church is the parish church of South Ossett; and was consecrated in 1851. It is cruciform in shape with a square tower and stands on a low hill above Horbury Road. The architects were Mallinson and Healy of Halifax and the building cost £2,120.

Ignatius RC Church

The Catholic parish of St Ignatius, Ossett was founded from St Austin's Wakefield in 1876.  The present church is built in brick in romanesque style with a vaulted roof  and was opened in 1934. The church on Storrs Hill road is fronted by a drive flanked with lawns.

Kings Way Church and Christian Centre

The United Reformed Church joined with the Ossett Methodist Church to become the Kings Way Church and Christian Centre at Wesley Street in September 2001. The church is the third on the site, the first dated from 1852 and became a sunday school in 1865 when the second church opened, the present building was opened in 1962.
