Featherstone

The town of Featherstone includes the smaller villages of Ackton, North Featherstone and Puston Jaglin.

Although coal has been collected from Featherstone moor since the middle ages the area was mainly agricultural until the 19th century boom in deep seam coal mining. Featherstone Main and Ackton Hall collieries provided the main work and dominated the lives of the population until the final pit closure in the 1980s. After a period of decline due to the loss of the pit the town has been steadily reinvigorating itself.

The famous rugby league side, Feathestone Rovers, still plays at Post Office Road.
